Complete Solution for OTT
Content Delivery
A complete solution for people who want do not want to
receive content from their cable or phone company
Background
As the backlash against cable and phone companies grew louder and louder, more and more people searched for alternatives to the old model of watching movies and TV. Netflix showed the way for getting on demand content, but watching live TV was still a cable and phone company monopoly.
Sezmi had established itself as a cheap alternative to this. It had successfully sold set top boxes through Amazon and started to amass a loyal following. Unfortunately, content creators had already started demanding exorbitant fees for their content thus, forcing us to pivot after a few years in the market. The company decided to become a white label creator for other companies who wanted to offer their customers over-the-top (OTT) content delivery solutions. We created mobile, web and set top experiences for some of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.

Mobile TV
early concept wireframes
The client had already done work on defining the personas and market research so, based on that we could start our rapid iteration prototyping process. While going through this process, we also developed flow charts to illustrate exactly every state of the application.
final designs
After several iterations with users we finalized an interaction model that was intuitive and took into consideration the particularities of the market. We worked with the customer’s marketing department to align our visual design style guide with the master style guide and in the end we agreed on this solution.
Set Top Box
early concept wireframes
We started with the principle that the TV viewing experience should be a “lean back” experience (this was back in 2011). This meant that the user should not have to “hunt and peck” for the favorite shows to watch. The system should surface those shows (or even recommend new ones based on viewing history) organically so the user’s only decision should be the order in which to watch the shows. We started with early prototypes.
We ran several rapid iteration sessions to get user feedback and validate the novel concepts we had introduced. When we had a stable version of the designs, we also built screen maps to validate the flow through the application.
